About Us

The North East Korfball Association (NEKA) is responsible for all things korfball related in the north east of England. Our main goal is to increase participation in korfball across the region. At present there are four clubs in the area catering for all abilities that all compete in the NEKA league. In addition to this the area now has its own team that attend the Senior Inter-Areas competition which is held once a year.

Clubs in the area are always looking to expand and welcome new members. Korfball is unique in that it gives both male and female players the chance to compete on an even level, working together in a fun and friendly environment. It is a great way to keep fit and meet new people.

The NEKA league is the newest addition to the England Korfball leagues having become affiliated in time for the 2018/2019 season. Games last for approximately one hour and each time is allowed one time out per half and eight substitutes. The league does not operate with a shot clock. All NEKA games are free to watch and you are more then welcome to see if its for you. If you can't make it to games, some teams, particularly Newcastle University, live stream several games a year online or on the Newcastle Uni Student Radio and can be found in the Uni newspaper, the Courier. As an area we will also be doing a weekly round up of fixtures and a monthly newsletter which you can subscribe to at the bottom of this page.

Senior Inter-Areas is an annual competition between all of the regions of England. Anyone who wants to can put themselves forward for the team as long as they can attend the trials that we hold. Those selected have previously had the opportunity to work with Dave Buckland, the current Tornadoes head coach, who has been involved with the England set up in the past.

New teams are always welcome and we are able to help those that are trying to establish a team. If you are trying to do so please get in touch so that we can help out as best as we can.
