Message from the Chair: June COVID-19 Update

This is a copy of the statement provided to all members this afternoon.

It has been an awful long time since we were last able to play korfball and I know that to many people, it is a much needed release but we all need to continue to do our part. We are lucky to have a large number of key workers within our clubs and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for everything they have done and continue to do. That being said, following the England Korfball Association (EKA) statement this afternoon, I hope to share some good news.

The statement allows for the resumption of some basic korfball activity. Before any member or club begins to plan for anything, please read in full the statement which is provided here. In addition, to these rules, we would also like to add the following:

  • If a member has borrowed equipment, that equipment cannot be used by a member from a different household within 12 hours of it being returned to the club

  • At this time, clubs can organise the loaning of equipment but they are not to organise sessions. This is to prevent groups from more than 2 households mixing

  • If you are able to do so as a club, keep the same ball(s) within a household regularly using the equipment. This prevents the need for unnecessary transfer of equipment

  • Where possible, use private outdoor spaces

  • Do not use public transport to move posts. This is to safeguard members and also out of consideration for the public

I hope this provides some good news for you but I would add a word of caution. The North East remains a high infection rate area. If you or anyone within your household experiences symptoms then you must isolate. I would ask that all clubs please keep a record of which household has used which equipment in order to aid contact tracing. Should anyone who has used the equipment need to isolate, then please notify the club and the club in turn should notify the other households.

Stay safe and stay well,

Chris Baker

NEKA Chairperson
